5 Simple Steps to Clean Electric Cooktops – Kitcheniest

Like other home cooks, you probably love experimenting with different food items and recipes, but like most home cooks, you hate cleaning up all the mess afterward. If you overlook this cleaning up task, things can get worse, and the leftover spills, grime, grease, and debris will build up over your kitchen appliances and affect their functionality.

The same applies to electric cooktops; you must maintain and clean them adequately and timely as the caked grime can damage the coils and the cooktop’s surface. Luckily for you, electric cooktops are simple to clean than other cooktops, plus no need to worry about clogging the igniter.

If you are not sure how to clean an electric cooktop, this guide can significantly help you regardless of how messy the cooktop’s surface is. And in no time, you will be able to try out other recipes on a clean and shiny electric cooktop.

How to clean electric cooktop

Things You will need:

  • Lint-free dish rags.
  • water
  • Liquid dish soap.
  • Baking soda.
  • A scraper.
  • Soft cleaning pad.

Step 1

Some electric stovetops and cooktops include self-cleaning features, which come in handy during cleaning. To banish spills, wipe the surface softly with a soft and lint-free cloth soaked in water (don’t use old t-shirts, please). Then turn on the cooktop’s burners at high heat, and leave them on for up to four to five minutes. The high temperature will burn and eliminate most of the dirt from the surface. After the surface gets cool down, wipe it off with a neat and fresh cloth.

Step 2

Next, you will have to take off the burner coils with a quick tug and lift. However, if you are unable to do so, check out the product manual for removal tips. (Don’t worry if you don’t have the manual, you can get it online by searching cooktop’s model number and name.

Step 3

Then, soak a dishrag in warm water and add a bit of normal dish soap. Now, gently scrub the burners, and avoid touching the socket as it is electric. Then wipe it off using the clean and lint-free rag. If you see the burners are spic and span, wait and continue reading.

Step 4

Still unable to remove that dirt and stubborn stains from burners? Take a 1/2 cup of baking soda, mix it with 3 to 4 tablespoons of plain water, and form a thick mixture. Now, apply the paste on the burners gently and leave it there for up to 20 to 25 minutes. Then grab a moist and clean, soft fabric and remove the baking soda paste from the surface. Rinse it with little water after every few passes and be careful while doing so as it is an electrical item.

Step 5

While the baking soda and water mixture is battling against stubborn and caked grime, you may start your war with the coils. First, carefully remove all the food particles and caked residues by using a cooktop scraper. Scrub the cooktop gently, and don’t rush. You can also use a gentle cleaning pad and a bit of water and baking soda mixture for this purpose. After doing so, remove all the remaining or excessive paste with a clean and moist rag. Then dry the coils with a fresh and soft cloth. Finally, plug the shiny and clean burners back into their place and enjoy your cooking.

Is it necessary to clean the Electric Coils?

Generally, cleaning the electric cooktop’s coils is a thing that shouldn’t bother you, and no need to worry about that. Mostly, the electric coils are self-cleaning as they get extremely hot during heating or cooking. And all food residues on coils burn quickly.

However, if your coils are in awkward condition and it still has stuck food residues, you will have to remove all the food particles by yourself. For this purpose, you will need a scrubber and remove the caked grime from the coils. You will have to remove them from the terminals, so be careful and don’t try them while scrubbing. You can also soak the coils in lukewarm water for thorough and detailed cleaning.
